In my classes and the classes I host for other designers on my knitting tours students almost always ask about where inspiration comes from. Here is my short answer:

Inspiration for knitting designs and fiberplay can come from anywhere, including the most unlikely places. An old cardigan at the National Gallery of Iceland, a crack in the pavement, the palm of my beautiful daughter’s hand, a yellow door on a house in the Faroe Islands, a tiled wall, a wall full of yarn at Steven Be’s, contrasting textures, Japanese sewing pattern books, a lonely fire hydrant in Ísafjörður, the magical colors of the Blue Lagoon, old accordions at a museum, my friend’s shocking pink living room floor, something fabulous from an old Danish women’s magazine, animals, interesting conversation, thoughts of deconstruction and reconstruction, Project Runway, goose bump inducing music, a tiled wall, furniture… you get the idea? I could go on and on and as I work more on my designs the range of things that inspire just grows and grows. Tell me what inspires you?
