Westies Besties Beauty
Oh my word! The first patterns in the Westy’s Besties collection have just been released as knitalongs. The collection is 12 garments designed by Stephen West in Jared Flood’s Brooklyn Tweed yarn. My heart is racing and goosbumps are crawling down my spine (in the nicest way) because the awesome photos (by Jared Flood) bring back fond memories from our photo shoot in Iceland last summer. Beautiful models, awesome styling of Cirilia Rose, striking nature of North Iceland and the garments are not that bad either. From left to right: Ella (model), Diddi (model), Stephen (designer prodigy), me (producer), Jared (photographer) and Cirilia (stylist). We’re all wearing pieces from the collection!
I love visiting the Álafoss factory store in Mosfellsbær (about 20 minutes from down town Reykjavík). I go there quite often because I’m a knitting tour guide!!!! And yes, I love my job.
Hi Alana
I first “met” Alana Dakos of Never Not Knitting online (oh these amazing modern times) in early 2010 when planning for an interview on her podcast. We stayed in touch and as a result of our friendship a few of her patterns got published in Iceland. It was awesome to meet Alana for the first time at Stitches West, and her little super cute baby boy. She has a book out now, co-authored with Hannah Fettig - it’s fabulous - check it!
The Yarn Co.
So happy I got to teach at this fabulous NYC LYS (!) in February. Tavy owns it (along with her brother) in addition to being a kick ass professor of finance and a dancer and just all together awesome. Huge thanks to my homie Stephen West for making the connection.
The class was on top down Lopi sweater knitting. Here in foreground is one vintage sweater I had with me to show.
Working the Lopi! To the left Kathy who came on a day tour with me in Iceland last year and to the right my wonderful friend Adrienne who I got to know when teaching a class in another NY store.
There I am talking about Icelandic sheep and Lopi and the wonders of top-down knitting! The knitters in my class were amazing.
Squeee!
Tavy (the fabulous to the left), me (striking my only photo pose it seems! hahah). I sure enjoyed our collaboration and really look forward to working with her again.
